Baku: The New Urban Agenda is about integrating informal settlements into urban plans and developing policies that address their needs, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Anacl¡udia Rossbach said during her speech at the official opening press conference held within the framework of WUF13, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Rossbach emphasized the significance of the New Urban Agenda, considering it a pivotal answer to future urban development. The New Urban Agenda, a global commitment from member states established in 2016 at the Habitat III conference in Quito, focuses on planning cities for both people and nature, with inclusivity at its core. The agenda places a strong emphasis on housing and recognizes the multifaceted value of land, urging for a careful approach to urban expansion.
Rossbach highlighted the need for urban plans that incorporate compact cities, balanced density, and accessible public spaces. She also underscored the importance of involving women in city planning processes, ensuring that cities are designed by, with, and for women. This comprehensive approach aims to create inclusive cities that leave no one behind, aligning with the principles outlined in the New Urban Agenda.
