Izmir: The Turkish city of Izmir is set to host a series of events from May 2-6 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of its twinning relationship with Baku. The celebrations, titled ‘Azerbaijani Days,’ will showcase the cultural ties between the two cities through a variety of programs and activities.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the event series includes an exhibition that opened on April 28, displaying 38 works by Azerbaijani artists, with an official opening ceremony planned for May 5. Music enthusiasts can look forward to a concert on May 2, featuring performances by People’s Artist Alim Gasimov and Honored Artist Fargana Gasimova.
The program will also honor the 103rd anniversary of Azerbaijan’s National Leader Heydar Aliyev and will include ‘Azerbaijani Cinema Days’ as part of the Turan Festival. Business representatives from both countries will have the opportunity to meet, strengthening economic ties, and the festival will conclude with an artistic program.
The events are collaboratively organized by the Azerbaijani Consulate General in Istanbul, the Azerbaijan Cultural Center in Trkiye, the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, and the Izmir Azerbaijan Association. The twinning agreement between Baku and Izmir was originally signed on April 29, 1986.
