Azerbaijan to Celebrate 120th Anniversary of Carpet Artist Latif Karimov


Baku: The 120th anniversary of the eminent carpet artist Latif Karimov will be celebrated, as reported by APA. President Ilham Aliyev has signed an official order to commemorate this occasion.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the order specifies that in November 2026, Azerbaijan will mark the 120th anniversary of Latif Huseyn oghlu Karimov, a significant figure in Azerbaijani fine arts. Karimov, renowned for his expertise in carpets, was an educator, art scholar, laureate of the USSR State Prize, and a People’s Artist. His contributions played a crucial role in advancing Azerbaijani carpet culture, recognized as a vital part of world cultural heritage. Karimov’s works, particularly his plot-based and monumental carpets, are celebrated for their unique artistic expression and craftsmanship. His research into the ornamental and compositional aspects of Azerbaijani carpets has established a systematic classification that remains a critical resource in carpet art studies.



The order outlines that the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences are tasked with preparing and implementing an action plan for the anniversary celebrations. Additionally, the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan is responsible for addressing any issues arising from this order.
