Speaker Accuses EU Representation in Georgia of Encouraging Harmful Organizations

Tbilisi: Shalva Papuashvili, the speaker of the Georgian Parliament, has made serious accusations against the European Union’s Representation in Georgia, claiming that it is encouraging organizations that promote hatred and violence. This statement was reported by APA’s Tbilisi correspondent.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Papuashvili’s allegations were made in response to the EU Representation’s decision to award the TV channel Formula in a journalism contest it organized. The speaker criticized the recognition of Formula TV, a channel he accuses of supporting terrorism and spreading harmful propaganda. He specifically mentioned David Kezerashvili, a former Georgian defense minister, and alleged that the channel continues its controversial activities by awarding a journalist linked with him.

Papuashvili expressed his disdain on a social media platform, asserting that endorsing such organizations is equivalent to participating in campaigns that promote hatred and violence. His comments reflect a broader tension between certain Georgian political factions and the EU, highlighting ongoing debates over media freedom and international influence in Georgia.
