Baku: The State Service for Special Communication and Information Security (SSSCIS) has issued a warning regarding a large-scale data leak in cyberspace, the State Service told APA. It has been revealed that a massive database containing approximately 16 billion usernames and passwords has been illegally distributed, raising significant concerns within the cybersecurity community.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the database includes user data from widely used platforms such as Apple, Google, Facebook, GitHub, and Telegram. Additionally, the breach affects various social networks, VPN services, and even government institutions. The data, collected through malicious software programs known as “infostealers,” has been detected on the open internet for the first time, marking this incident as one of the largest data breaches ever recorded.
The SSSCIS emphasizes the importance of citizens remaining vigilant to protect against increasing cyber threats. It advises the use of antivirus software and urges individuals to avoid suspicious links that may lead to cyberattacks. Furthermore, the statement encourages reporting fake domains to the ‘blacklist.gov.az’ platform to enhance personal cyber hygiene and security.
