The Ministry of Health in Kyrgyzstan will be developing a new air quality index, Deputy Director of Kyrgyzhydromet Almaz Jeenaliev told AKIpress in an interview.
This decision comes as a result of the presence of various air quality sensors operated by both non-governmental organizations and Kyrgyzhydromet across the country, which produce differing data.
Jeenaliev explained that non-governmental organizations follow an American system of air quality standards, whereas the post-Soviet and Central Asian countries adopt a different system with its own set of norms. To address this discrepancy, the Ministry of Health is now working on establishing a new air quality index.
He further highlighted that the variance in indexes arises due to the differences in perception and interpretation of air quality. For instance, while a value of 10 on our index may be considered moderate, it may be deemed higher than normal on their scale, he added.
