Baku: The first passenger train on the Baku-Aghdam-Baku route, operated by Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), has successfully arrived in Aghdam.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the train, a part of AZCON Holding, embarked on its inaugural journey, departing from Baku at 07:10.
The newly launched service is scheduled to operate every Saturday, departing from Baku at 07:10 and arriving in Aghdam at 11:53. The return journey from Aghdam begins at 18:20, with the train reaching Baku Railway Station by 22:55. The route includes stops at several stations: Baku, Bilajari, Ujar, Leki, Yevlakh, Barda, Kocharli, Tazakend, and Aghdam.
Passengers can choose from a variety of travel options, including standard, standard+, business, and first class. Ticket prices range from 12 AZN for trips to Barda and Kocharli stations, and Tazakend stop, to 12.80 AZN for travel to the Aghdam Railway and Bus Station Complex. The service also offers free Wi-Fi during the journey.
Tickets have been available for purchase from August 27 via the ADY website, the ‘ADY Mobile’ app, and railway ticket offices. To facilitate comfortable travel to liberated areas, automatic permission is granted when purchasing tickets for this route.
Historically, passenger transport to Aghdam was conducted by a sleeper train on the Baku-Khankendi-Baku route until 1993. The new railway service aims to improve public transport accessibility in the Karabakh economic region, enhancing the socio-economic revival and expanding Azerbaijan’s transport capabilities in the region. This development is part of the broader initiative known as the Great Return.
