Electricity Production in Azerbaijan Sees 2.6% Increase in First Half of Year

Baku: In January through July of this year, Azerbaijan produced 15,639.5 million kW/h of electricity, marking a 2.6% increase compared to the previous year, APA-Economics reports citing the State Statistical Committee. The production of electricity from commodity products also increased by the same percentage, reaching 15,109.9 million kW/h during the reporting period.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the largest share of electricity production in the country came from thermal power plants, which accounted for 12,668.6 million kW/h. This figure represents a 0.9% decrease compared to the output from January to June 2024. Meanwhile, the remainder of the electricity was produced by hydroelectric power plants and other alternative and renewable energy sources.

The report further details specific sectors of electricity production: electricity generated from waste incineration stood at 132.1 million kW/h, a decrease to 99.3% of the previous year’s figure. Electricity production from hydroelectric power stations was 2,079.6 million kW/h, reflecting a significant increase to 112.5%. Wind power production was recorded at 27.5 million kW/h, which is a decrease to 81.4%, while solar power plants saw a production increase to 334.2 million kW/h, reaching 113.1% compared to the same period last year.
