Baku: BP is constructing a facility to remotely manage a $2.9 billion compressor platform in the Caspian Sea, as announced by BP’s Vice President of Production for the Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Trkiye region, Stuart Shaw, during his speech at the Baku Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shaw highlighted that BP is about to launch its next significant project in the Caspian Sea. The new compressor platform, located in the Shah Deniz field, is designed for remote operation, eliminating the need for on-site human presence. The project, which represents a substantial investment of $2.9 billion, is scheduled to be operational by 2030. The innovative design ensures that no permanent staff is required on the platform, as all operations will be managed remotely from onshore control centers. This approach is expected to enhance safety by reducing security risks and also decrease operational costs and the need for human resources.
Shaw further pointed out that this project might mark a pivotal moment for the future of remotely controlled energy facilities in the Caspian Sea. BP is focused on setting new benchmarks for efficiency and sustainability in the region’s energy production sector by further implementing remote control technologies.
