Baku:Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has detailed his country’s foreign policy doctrine during a speech at the 8th Congress of the New Azerbaijan Party.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev’s address focused on Azerbaijan’s future in international affairs, emphasizing self-reliance and independence. He declared that Azerbaijan does not require external help or patronage.
Five key principles were outlined. The first, self-reliance in security, stresses that Azerbaijan’s military capabilities have been developed independently, with a significant budget allocated for defense to deter potential provocations.
The second principle is economic sovereignty, highlighting the country’s minimal external debt relative to GDP and substantial foreign exchange reserves. This economic strategy supports Azerbaijan’s political independence.
Aliyev’s third principle, partnership without alignment, emphasizes Azerbaijan’s strategic relationships with various global powers, including the European Union, China, and the United States, while maintaining independence from any single alliance.
The fourth principle, reciprocal non-interference, asserts Azerbaijan’s commitment to keeping foreign influence out of its ideological and political spheres, maintaining that decisions are made solely by Azerbaijanis.
Lastly, the fifth principle, strategic restraint and reliability, was demonstrated by Azerbaijan’s calculated military actions in recent conflicts, underscoring disciplined use of power.
These principles collectively form a comprehensive strategy to safeguard Azerbaijan’s sovereignty amidst global conflicts and rivalries. President Aliyev affirmed that the nation’s future remains firmly in its own hands.
