Azerbaijani MP Criticizes Russian Counterpart Over Allegations of Cultural Vandalism

Baku: Russian MP Konstantin Zatulin, who ignored the restoration and improvement works carried out in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, and who either remained silent or openly justified the Armenian atrocities during the occupation, has once again spoken out with white lies and accused the Azerbaijani state of “vandalism”. Allegedly, the demolition of the statue of Ivan Aivazovsky in Khankendi is “barbarism”, “destruction of religious and historical monuments”, etc. These accusations are not only groundless, but also a manifestation of Zatulin’s political position and personal immorality,” MP, Deputy Chairman of the Party of Justice, Law and Democracy Elchin Mirzabayli told APA.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Azerbaijani MP, Elchin Mirzabayli, challenged the integrity and motives of Russian MP Konstantin Zatulin, who accused Azerbaijan of cultural vandalism. Mirzabayli pointed out that Zatulin’s comments regarding the demolition of a statue in Khankendi lack substance and reflect a biased political stance.

Mirzabayli questioned Zatulin’s silence on the destruction of Muslim mosques in Russia and the desecration of Caucasian monuments, accusing him of selectively applying the term “barbarism” to suit his narrative. He described Zatulin as a figure who prioritizes corporate interests over cultural integrity and accused him of representing an imperialist mentality that has historically undermined the cultural heritage and sovereignty of numerous peoples.

The Azerbaijani MP reaffirmed his country’s commitment to preserving its history, culture, and independence, asserting that individuals like Zatulin lack the moral or political authority to hinder Azerbaijan’s progress.
