ADY Expands Suburban Rail Connectivity with All-New Stop

Baku: Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), a company under AZCON Holding, has launched a new railway stop at Darnagul as part of its efforts to enhance passenger transportation and reduce congestion in Baku’s city center.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this development is part of the ‘State Program on the Improvement of Transport Infrastructure in Baku and Surrounding Areas for 2025-2030,’ adopted by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Darnagul stop, located along the Baku-Khirdalan-Sumgayit line within the Absheron circular railway, features modern infrastructure standards, including inclusivity solutions for improved passenger safety and comfort. The station complex includes two turnstile buildings with waiting halls, four platforms, a pedestrian overpass, and new landscaping. It has 21 turnstiles, including wide-access ones for individuals with disabilities and parents with strollers, and offers car and bicycle parking facilities.

Ticket prices for routes involving the Darnagul stop range from AZN 0.60 to AZN 1.00, with travel times ranging from 8 to 15 minutes for various journeys. The stop’s integrated transfer options aim to alleviate congestion in central Baku and improve urban mobility by facilitating easy transfers to other modes of transportation.

Initially, the station is expected to serve 200,000 passengers annually, with capacity to accommodate 500,000 by 2030 as new trains are introduced. The Darnagul stop adds to the 15 stations and stops currently facilitating rail transportation on the Absheron circular railway route, contributing to Baku’s transport mobility.

In recent years, ADY has improved the Absheron circular route by diversifying services and modernizing stations, increasing daily train journeys from 66 to 96. The State Program also includes plans to restore and reconstruct traditional suburban lines and introduce new stations and stops, aiming to increase the number of stations on the route to 40 by 2030.

A priority of the State Program is also the restoration of the Guzdak-Garadagh railway line to accommodate freight traffic, enhancing the Baku-Khirdalan-Sumgayit route’s passenger capacity. Plans for procuring 20 new passenger trains by 2030 are underway, supporting sustainable transport development and improved accessibility in Baku and its surrounding areas.
