Activist and two others detained for blocking road in Selektsionoye village to address water shortage problem

On July 14, a blogger and two local residents were detained in Sokuluk district for organizing an illegal road block.

Over a hundred citizens from Selektsionoye village blocked the southern highway to address water issues on July 14 evening, police said. Despite attempts to negotiate, the road remained blocked until July 15, when it was finally opened.

An investigation revealed that the road block was deliberately organized by the activist E.I., who urged residents to take radical action to solve the water problem, the statement of the authorities said.

As a result, a criminal case was opened against E.I. for illegal blocking of roads and against two other suspects for hooliganism. They were placed in a temporary detention facility.

The investigation is ongoing.

Activist Ertai Iskakov had previously applied to participate in the election of a member to the Kyrgyz parliament from Leninskiy single-mandate district, scheduled for September 10.
