Baku:The World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2026 commenced with an opening ceremony at the Baku Aquatic Palace on October 1.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Farid Gayibov, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, highlighted the significance of sports as a core aspect of the nation’s state policy under President Ilham Aliyev. Gayibov expressed his appreciation to World Aquatics and the event organizers for their efforts.
Zaur Aliyev, President of the Azerbaijan Swimming Federation, emphasized the importance of the occasion, noting the participation of over 200 athletes from 44 countries as a testament to the confidence in Azerbaijan’s capability to host such events.
Husain Al Musallam, President of World Aquatics, thanked Azerbaijan for the event’s organization and awarded Azerbaijan and Baku the World Aquatics Foundation Environmental Award in recognition of their environmental conservation efforts.
The tournament features 216 swimmers from 44 countries, with Azerbaijan fielding 15 athletes. The Baku leg of the World Cup is set to conclude on October 3.
