Baku: The trial of Armenian citizen Ruben Vardanyan, accused of multiple serious crimes under the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, continued with harrowing testimonies from victims, APA reports. Vardanyan faces charges related to crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, and terrorism, among others.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, victim Nurlan Baghirov, who served in the Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, recounted the tragic incident where he and his fellow soldiers were attacked by remnants of Armenian armed forces. The assault involved gunfire and hand grenades, leading to the deaths of 14 soldiers, including 12 from the Internal Troops and 2 servicemen from the Ministry of Defense. Several other servicemen were injured, and Baghirov himself sustained injuries.
During the trial, a forensic medical examination of the victim was presented in court. The charges against Ruben Vardanyan are extensive, encompassing articles related to planning and waging a war of aggression, deportation, persecution, torture, and violations of international humanitarian law. Vardanyan also faces charges of illegal entrepreneurship, various forms of terrorism, illegal acquisition of firearms, and acts threatening aviation safety.
Vardanyan’s trial continues as the court examines further evidence and testimonies related to the charges against him.
