Baku: The ‘Baku Marathon 2025,’ initiated by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, will take place on May 3, bringing together 25,000 participants racing under the slogan ‘Win the Wind.’
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the 9th edition of the marathon will welcome runners from different countries, including Azerbaijan, the U.S., China, Germany, UK, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Trkiye, and Ukraine. The 42 km course is set to begin at the State Flag Square, finishing at the Sea Breeze Resort.
In a related development in the world of marathons, Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe made history at the London Marathon by becoming the first athlete to run a sub-two-hour marathon in a competitive race. The 31-year-old crossed the line to win in one hour 59 minutes 30 seconds, more than one minute faster than the late Kelvin Kiptum’s previous record of 2:00:35, set in 2023.
