Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan Collaborate on Peaceful Nuclear Energy Development

Tashkent: In a significant move to foster the peaceful use of nuclear energy, the Uzatom Agency in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, hosted a critical meeting with a Kazakh delegation led by Zhomart Aliyev, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources. This gathering included representatives from key Uzbek governmental bodies and expert organizations.

According to Trend News Agency, the talks aimed to strengthen cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in nuclear energy, focusing on environmental and radiation safety, and personnel training in the nuclear sector. Azim Akhmedkhadzhayev, the Director of the Uzatom Agency, emphasized the value of experience exchange between the two nations, both of which are engaged in nuclear energy development projects. He noted that this collaboration would enable advancements in nuclear technologies for energy, medicine, agriculture, and water purification.

Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister, Zhomart Aliyev, highlighted the importance of constructive dialogue and expressed Kazakhstan’s eagerness to learn from Uzbekistan’s experiences. This knowledge exchange is intended to help Kazakhstan minimize risks and enhance the efficiency of its nuclear energy initiatives.

The meeting addressed several critical issues, including radiation and nuclear safety, seismic resistance of nuclear power plant construction sites, and the establishment of a joint monitoring system for radiation and environmental conditions. There was also a strong emphasis on training personnel, educational programs, and professional development for specialists in the field.

Concluding the session, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the collaborative alliance, underscoring the importance of cooperative initiatives for the secure and sustainable progress of nuclear energy within the Central Asian region.
