Baku: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasized the importance of initiating confidence-building measures between Azerbaijan and Armenia during his address at an international forum titled ‘Facing the New World Order’ held at ADA University. President Aliyev highlighted the necessity for Armenia to respect Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and constitutional provisions as a prerequisite for signing a peace agreement, which he believes would pave the way for an integrated South Caucasus region.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev acknowledged the challenges in fostering immediate friendship with Armenia, describing such expectations as unrealistic. He noted that discussions of economic integration between the two nations are premature at this stage. However, he expressed Azerbaijan’s readiness to begin with small steps towards establishing confidence-building measures, which could eventually lead to improved relations.
