President Ilham Aliyev Welcomes New Colombian Ambassador to Azerbaijan


Baku: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Nelsy Raquel Munar Jaramillo, the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Colombia to Azerbaijan, on April 14, APA reports. The ambassador presented her credentials to the head of state, marking the commencement of her diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan.



According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev engaged in a discussion with Ambassador Munar Jaramillo, highlighting the positive bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Colombia despite the geographical distance. He emphasized the potential for expanding cooperation in multiple sectors, including economic, investment, and tourism, building on the strong existing political ties.



President Aliyev expressed his best wishes for Ambassador Munar Jaramillo’s tenure and her efforts to enhance the bilateral relationship. The ambassador, in turn, expressed her honor at being the first female ambassador of Colombia to Azerbaijan. She pledged to work diligently towards strengthening political dialogue and identifying new areas for cooperation.



Ambassador Munar Jaramillo also noted the initiative by Colombia to promote the Spanish language in Azerbaijan through courses, which have seen active participation from Azerbaijani students and specialists. The conversation touched upon previous successful collaborations, such as the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the application of the ‘ASAN Khidmet’ model in Colombia.



The meeting further explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in agriculture, demining, education, and culture. Additionally, the strong cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, including the UN and the Non-Aligned Movement, was acknowledged with mutual support being praised.



The discussions concluded with an exchange of views on bolstering interparliamentary cooperation, enhancing mutual contacts, and facilitating visits, alongside addressing other issues of mutual interest.
