Baku: President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan recently held a meeting with President Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives. The meeting, reported by APA, took place on November 14 and focused on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing climate change issues, which are critical for both nations.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Mohamed Muizzu expressed his gratitude to President Aliyev for the effective organization of COP29. He emphasized the importance of the discussions held during his visit to Azerbaijan, particularly in the context of advancing cooperation between the two countries. President Aliyev acknowledged the vulnerability of the Maldives, an island nation, to climate change impacts and hoped that the visit would foster enhanced bilateral ties.
The dialogue also touched upon the recent establishment of direct flights between the Maldives and Baku, which President Muizzu believes will enhance tourism and foster closer connections between the peoples of both countries. He noted the Mal
dives’ implementation of a visa-free regime for Azerbaijani citizens and expressed optimism that Azerbaijan might reciprocate this gesture.
In their discussions, the two leaders explored potential areas of collaboration, including tourism, investments, and other sectors of mutual interest, aiming to strengthen the partnership between Azerbaijan and the Maldives.
