President Ilham Aliyev Addresses Urban Transport Paralysis Due to Heavy Rains

Baku: President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the paralysis of urban transport following heavy rains, citing serious challenges arising as a result. Currently, only 50 percent of Azerbaijan’s population has access to sewage services. This figure is expected to increase to 95 percent following the implementation of the State Program for the improvement of water supply, wastewater, and stormwater systems in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula for 2026-2035.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev noted that heavy rains lead to urban transport paralysis, not only in Baku or Azerbaijan but globally. Floods have become frequent even in developed countries, overwhelming city infrastructures. Despite these global challenges, Azerbaijan faces significant issues in managing heavy rainfall. To address these, a new collector network will be constructed on 30 streets in Baku to manage rainwater efficiently, offering substantial benefits as emphasized by the President.
