Baku: President Ilham Aliyev has emphasized the significance of the eldership tradition as a cornerstone of Azerbaijani national heritage. In his address to the participants of the 9th Congress of the Council of Elders of Azerbaijan, he stated, ‘The tradition of eldership, rooted in the ancient moral and ethical values of the Azerbaijani people, is one of the most important pillars of our national heritage.’
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted the prominent role that respect for elders plays in Azerbaijani culture. He noted that this respect is deeply embedded in both oral and written literature of the nation. The President referenced the epic Book of Dede Korkut, which portrays the historical past and customs of Azerbaijan, underscoring that respect for the advice and words of elders is depicted as the highest moral quality.
