Number of victims of heavy rains in Tajikistan increases to 17

The bodies of four more people were found during the cleanup of the aftermath of a natural disaster in Vahdat, Tajikistan. The number of victims increased to 17 people. The bodies of 3 women and 1 man were found during work in the rural districts named after N. Rozik, Simiganj, Chuyangaron and Romit of Vahdat city, representative of the Emergency Committee of Tajikistan Umeda Yusufi told Asia-Plus. “The bodies have been handed over to the relevant authorities to establish their identity,” the Comiittee said. The death of 13 people, including 11 in Vahdat and 2 more in Rudaki, was reported earlier. According to Yusufi, the Emergency Committee, with the involvement of 350 local residents, cleared of dirt and slurry water lines, streets and roads, 25 residential buildings in the districts. Heavy precipitation caused mudflows on Dushanbe-Vahdat-Lyakhsh road on the night of August 29. 94 and 96 kilometers were flooded near Kumak city, 113 and 115 km, passing through Hamalango and 140 km, passing through Sari-Kosh in Nurabad district. A mud mass flooded six household plots of local residents in Guliston-2 village of Dakhan district and Gulafshon-3 village of Yavan district of Khatlon region on the afternoon of August 28 due to heavy rains. Mudflows also descended due to heavy rain and hail in 18-Khizb and Partez villages of Khuroson district of Khatlon region. The mud and stone mass partially covered 25 household plots. The water supply system was damaged in Sabzazor village. Mudflows descended from the hills in Kuhdoman-1 village of Farkhor district, as a result of which 100 heads of small cattle died, the water partially flooded 3 household plots of local residents. Local Committees for Emergency Situations work at the scene of the incidents and determine the amount of damage.
