Konul Behbudova: Let our voice of truth and justice be conveyed to the whole world

Armenians do not disclose any information about mass graves. We demand that the Armenian state provide information about our missing persons to the Azerbaijani side. We also urge the UN not to remain indifferent to this problem. We call out to the mothers of persons who went missing during wars in the world. Let our voice of truth and justice be conveyed to the whole world, Konul Behbudova, the chairperson of the ‘Karabakh Missing Families’ Public Union, has told the regional correspondent of AZERTAC during a visit of family members of missing persons to Shusha. Noting that her brother had gone missing in the First Karabakh War, Konul Behbudova said that it was very difficult for the family to visit the mass grave discovered in Shusha. ‘We have also visited the Shusha prison. Our soldiers were tortured badly here. This can be evidenced from the mass graves discovered here. We can imagine the extent of torture they were subjected to when they were killed,’ she said. Emphasizing that the families had appealed to the UN but the appeal had remained unanswered, Konul Behbudova said: ‘The International Committee of the Red Cross has not disclosed any information about our missing people in the last 30 years. We convey our rightful demand to them. We demand that they provide information about what happened to our missing persons in 30 years and their subsequent fate.’ The family members of the persons who went missing in the First Karabakh War have visited Shusha. During the trip, a visit was organized to the mass grave discovered in Shusha. About 50 members of missing families took part in the visit. The ‘Karabakh Missing Families’ Public Union has appealed to the United Nations. The appeal urges Armenia to immediately disclose information about missing persons and provide the locations of mass graves. Also, the appeal also called for the establishment of the UN special rapporteur on missing persons and problems related to the missing persons whose fate is still unknown. As a result of excavations conducted from August 1 to 15 of this year, human remains of 17 people were found in the territory of Shusha prison. In general, mass graves have been discovered in the villages of Sarijali of the Aghdam district, Dashalti of the Shusha district, Edilli of the Khojavand district, Farrukh of the Khojaly district, Yukhari Seyidahmadli of the Fuzuli district, as well as Kalbajar, Aghdam and other settlements liberated from occupation.
