The activity of Russian peacekeepers in Garabagh will be adapted to the current situation, said Russian MFA Spokesperson Maria Zakharova, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

According to her, the situation in Garabagh has changed drastically in the last year: “In October 2022, the Prime Minister of Armenia recognized the Garabagh region as the territory of Azerbaijan at the Prague summit held under the auspices of the European Union. He reaffirmed this position at the summits held in Brussels in May and June of 2023. With this, the conditions for the deployment of the Russian peacekeeping contingent to the region in 2020 have seriously changed. Following the clashes on September 19-20, the activities of peacekeepers will be adapted (to the existing conditions – ed.) against the background of the mass population leaving the region. The President of Russia also said about this some time ago. A number of stationary and temporary observation posts of Russian peacekeepers have already been closed down. As we have already said, fundamental issues related to our peacekeepers are being discussed with Baku,” Zakharova emphasized.

In response to the question about when the next round of trilateral negotiations between Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia will be held, Zakharova said that information will be given as soon as the date is known.
