Global Flyways Documentary Highlights Azerbaijan’s Birdwatching Opportunities

Baku:Azerbaijan’s unique birdlife and strategic migration routes have been prominently featured in two episodes of the international documentary series Global Flyways, developed by BirdLife International and Content With Purpose (CWP).

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the series, filmed across 35 destinations on five continents, focuses on the journeys of migratory birds and the efforts to protect them. The episodes dedicated to Azerbaijan, released on October 10, were produced in collaboration with the Azerbaijan Tourism Board (ATB) and aim to showcase the country’s birdwatching potential to a global audience.

The documentary highlights locations such as Beshbarmag Mountain, a natural corridor for migratory birds between the Caspian Sea and surrounding mountains. It also features Shirvan National Park and Gizilaghaj National Park, presenting the diverse bird species found in Azerbaijan, including raptors, shorebirds, and alpine species.

The Azerbaijan Tourism Board facilitated the production by arranging filming logistics, providing access to sites, and offering archival footage. The episodes include insights from local experts, such as birding expert Elvin Mammadov and ornithologist Elchin Soltanov, alongside an interview with Rashad Aliyev, Deputy CEO of ATB, discussing Azerbaijan’s tourism strategy and the significance of nature-based tourism.

BirdLife International, a global partnership for nature conservation, collaborates with 125 organizations in 120 countries, while CWP, based in the UK, specializes in documentary filmmaking and purpose-driven campaigns. Through this collaboration, ATB is enhancing Azerbaijan’s reputation as a prime destination for birdwatching and nature-based travel.
