Feasibility study of uranium enrichment plant developed in Mongolia

A feasibility study of a uranium enrichment plant, which is planned to be built in Mongolia, is at the development stage.

The Mongolian government set up a working group last month to reach an investment agreement with Orano, a world leader in uranium mining and a key player in the nuclear industry. The working group is active in the areas of uranium mining Zoovch-Ovoo and Dulaan-Uul.

It is planned to produce 750 tons of uranium powder in the first year after the development of the uranium deposit and commissioning of the plant. Its number will grow to 2,500 tons of powder per year in the next 5 years.

“A feasibility study for a uranium enrichment plant is being developed. It will make an important contribution to the Mongolian economy and the development of the region. The importing countries will be fully responsible for the waste,” says Minister of Justice Nyambaatar Khishgee.

The presence of own uranium production in Mongolia allows the country to guarantee customers the reliability of supplies, as well as the long-term security of raw materials for nuclear generation and competitive production costs.
