European Countries Ramp Up Efforts to Refill Gas Storage Facilities

Brussels: The level of filling of underground gas storage facilities in the European Union countries is approximately 63%, which is about 9 percentage points lower than the average indicator of the last five years, APA-Economics reports citing European Association of Gas Infrastructure Operators (Gas Infrastructure Europe, GIE).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, it was stated that currently, the total volume of gas in the storage facilities of the EU countries is 69 billion cubic meters. The European Commission mandates that EU countries must ensure their gas storage facilities are 90% full by November 1 each year. This requirement is intended to bolster reserves for the winter period in case of supply disruptions or abnormally cold weather conditions.

Transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe through the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) began on December 31, 2020, serving as a crucial avenue for natural gas supply to the continent.
