Defendant Reveals Passport Issuance Details During Baku Military Court Trial

Baku: During the ongoing trial at the Baku Military Court, defendant Arkadi Ghukasyan admitted that Armenian passports were issued to Armenian residents living under the so-called regime, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Ghukasyan stated that these passports bore the inscription “Republic of Armenia” but specified the place of residence, such as Khankendi or Aghdara. These passports allowed residents to travel to Russia, Europe, and other destinations. Ghukasyan explained that the passports were obtained in Armenia and that while they appeared identical to those of Armenian citizens, the serial numbers differed. A unique serial number was issued by Armenia for the Armenian residents living in Karabakh.

Ghukasyan further noted that there was no registration for Armenian citizens traveling to Karabakh. There was no record-keeping for Armenian citizens entering Karabakh or for Armenian residents of Karabakh traveling to Armenia. However, foreign citizens traveling from Armenia to Karabakh were subject to registration upon arrival and departure. He mentioned that many individuals from various countries, including deputies, senators, and congressmen, visited the region.

The trial, which involves Armenian citizens accused of multiple serious crimes such as crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, and terrorism, will continue on March 14. The charges stem from Armenia’s military aggression and include preparation and conduct of aggressive war, genocide, and other offenses.
