Baku: The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) continues measures to ensure cybersecurity and combat cybercrimes, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Cybercrime Department carried out a special operation in response to cyberattacks targeting databases of state systems most commonly used by citizens for online services. During the operation, Baku resident Huseyn Maharramov was identified and detained for illegally accessing computer systems and obtaining personal data belonging to Azerbaijani citizens.
Maharramov had established connections with cybercriminal groups consisting of foreign nationals via the internet. After his activities were exposed, the stolen data and unauthorized access to information systems were neutralized by law enforcement officers. Forensic examination of the electronic evidence confirmed his illegal intrusion into computer systems.
A criminal case has been initiated under the relevant article of the Criminal Code. Maharramov was charged, and the investigation has been completed. The case has been submitted to the court.
Efforts are underway in cooperation with law enforcement agencies of foreign countries to detain Maharramov’s accomplices hiding abroad.
