Baku: The condition of a 45-year-old man who suffered severe injuries after stepping on a mine in Goranboy district has been disclosed. On May 31, Galib Kamran oglu Abbasov, a resident of Garachinar village, was hospitalized after the incident which occurred in the area of Yenikend village, a former contact line not cleared of mines.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Abbasov was taken to the Emergency Department of the Abbas Sahhat Hospital under the Ganja City United Hospital. He was diagnosed with a traumatic amputation of the left leg from the ankle and sustained shrapnel wounds in various parts of his body. His condition is currently assessed as moderately severe, and he is receiving treatment in the relevant department of the hospital. Earlier, he was initially admitted to the Emergency Medical Aid Department of Goranboy District Central Hospital.
The Press Services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the Mine Clearance Agency (ANAMA) have jointly reported that the incident took place while Abbasov was grazing livestock in the Baranbat forest area near Garachinar village. The area is known to be hazardous due to remaining landmines from past conflicts.
An investigation is being conducted by the Goranboy district prosecutor’s office to determine further details of the incident. In light of this, ANAMA, along with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General’s Office, has issued a warning urging citizens to adhere strictly to safety rules, remain vigilant of mine danger signs, and avoid venturing into unfamiliar areas.
