Baku: Azerbaijan’s State Security Service (SSS) has successfully prevented foreign interference in office and home surveillance cameras. Cybersecurity measures have been implemented following the seizure of video surveillance camera footage, APA reports citing the State Security Service.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the SSS has been continuing its comprehensive efforts to combat cyber threats. Operational and technical measures were undertaken to address unauthorized remote access to control devices (DVR) of video surveillance cameras installed in various offices and apartments across Azerbaijan. These illegal actions involved capturing video materials that violated the personal and family privacy of residents and posting them on foreign internet resources.
Investigations revealed that user accounts with real-time monitoring capabilities of video surveillance cameras were being sold. In response, the SSS, in collaboration with relevant state agencies, worked to eliminate the repercussions of this cyber interference.
Urgent measures led to the identification of addresses where surveillance cameras were compromised. A general security gap was discovered during technical inspections, which was found to be the primary factor in enabling cyber interference. The foreign manufacturing company responsible for the cameras was asked to address the security gap, and the compromised footage was removed from international internet platforms.
Citizens are advised to adhere to guidelines for information and communication devices and exercise caution when using equipment of uncertain origin and specifications.
