Geneva: A delegation of Azerbaijan led by Samir Poladov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA), attended the 29th International Meeting of Mine Action National Directors and United Nations Advisers (NDM-UN29) in Geneva, Switzerland. The event was convened by the United Nations Inter-Agency Coordination Group on Mine Action (IACG-MA), co-organized and co-hosted with the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD) on April 22-24.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the ANAMA Deputy Chairman addressed a side event titled ‘From contamination to recovery: Mine Action as the Foundation for Recovery’. The session also featured the Director of the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD), the Executive Director of the ASEAN Regional Mine Action Center (ARMAC), and a member of the Slovenian ITF Enhancing Human Security NGO organization.
During the discussion, Samir Poladov emphasized humanitarian demining efforts as foundational to human security, restoration, and recovery. He highlighted landmine contamination as a global challenge that necessitates continuous international collaboration and expertise exchange. Poladov also briefed the participants on Azerbaijan’s mine problem and the country’s ongoing demining efforts.
