Baku:Azerbaijan could gain several advantages by joining the Common Transit Convention, according to WTO expert Marius Bordalba, who spoke at the Azerbaijan-European Union Business Forum.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Bordalba highlighted ongoing efforts in trade policy, quality infrastructure, and digital transformation aimed at fostering a conducive business environment and supporting Azerbaijan’s economic development.
The expert mentioned that support is provided to the Ministry of Economy to evaluate the regulatory framework for e-commerce, identifying legislative gaps and the need for new regulations. A range of stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector representatives, and civil society, are involved in these assessments.
Furthermore, Bordalba noted that support is extended to the State Customs Committee in the process of Azerbaijan joining the Common Transit Convention. This accession could allow Azerbaijani companies to transport goods from Baku to any destination within the Common Transit Area using a single declaration, guarantee, and procedure.
The Common Transit Area currently includes 41 countries. Accession is expected to facilitate faster border crossings, digitize customs procedures, reduce guarantee costs, and apply uniform rules across member countries. It will also ensure legal certainty concerning liability, inquiries, and claims.
