Baku:Azerbaijani citizens planning to travel abroad during the upcoming holidays and New Year break are advised to be informed about mobile data usage in popular destinations such as Türkiye, Russia, Georgia, and Europe.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the State Statistical Committee reported that 1,384,500 Azerbaijani citizens traveled abroad from January to August 2026, with Türkiye accounting for 43.9% of these trips, Russia for 14.8%, and Georgia for 12.8%.
In Türkiye, travelers can utilize their operator’s roaming package or a travel eSIM, with installation recommended before arrival. These eSIMs connect to Vodafone or Türk Telekom networks as detailed on the LimitSim Türkiye eSIM page. In Russia, since October 2025, foreign SIM cards and eSIMs experience a 24-hour delay for mobile data and SMS upon first network connection, although calls remain functional. Travelers are advised to save essential maps, tickets, and bookings in advance. For those heading to Georgia, eSIM activation is possible immediately after crossing the border, with connections to Cellfie, Silknet, or Magti networks, depending on the plan. In Europe, the newly implemented EU Entry/Exit System (EES) requires non-EU short-stay travelers to provide fingerprints and facial images at Schengen borders, making a single regional eSIM for Europe sufficient for multiple country visits.
Travelers are encouraged to follow three key checks before departure installing the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi, ensuring it is not deleted, and turning off data roaming on their main SIM to avoid unexpected charges while keeping their Azerbaijani number active.
– Check eSIM support dial \*#06#. If a 32-digit EID appears, the phone is compatible. You can also look up your model in the list of eSIM phones.
