Baku: “We were the initiators of the peace negotiations after the Second Karabakh War,” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated during a press briefing with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb¡n, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, President Aliyev highlighted that the text of the peace agreement, authored by Azerbaijan, has now been accepted by Armenia, albeit with certain amendments. He emphasized two critical conditions for the signing of the peace treaty. First, Armenia’s constitution still contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan, which must be removed. Second, the OSCE Minsk Group, established to resolve the Karabakh conflict, should be abolished since it no longer functions de facto, and its de jure abolition is necessary.
President Aliyev expressed disappointment that Armenia has not agreed to these conditions yet. However, he remains confident that the developments in recent years indicate that Armenia will eventually have to consent to these proposals. He reassured that Azerbaijan’s proposals do not contain anything extraordinary.
