Brussels:Milan Azerbaijani families of missing persons have staged protests across various European cities to raise awareness about Armenia’s mine warfare and its impact. These demonstrations coincide with the international ‘A Mine-Free World’ campaign, organized by Azerbaijan’s ‘Gilavar Photo Club’ Public Union, which recently held a photo exhibition in Milan, Italy.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the campaign aims to highlight the ongoing threat posed by landmines planted during the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, despite the conflict’s conclusion. Armenia has been urged to provide accurate mine maps to assist in securing lasting peace. The exhibitions have drawn significant public attention.
The ‘Gilavar’ Photo Club has been actively organizing a series of photo exhibitions across Europe, including Geneva, Brno, Ljubljana, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Salzburg, and Rome, as part of the campaign. These efforts are supported by a grant from the Agency for State Support to Non-Governmental Organizations of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Garabagh Revival Fund, in partnership with ANAMA.
In parallel, the ‘Garabagh Missing Families’ Public Union has organized protests involving Azerbaijani families of missing persons. On October 20, they protested outside the European Parliament, followed by another demonstration in Schuman Square in Brussels on October 21. A statement read during these demonstrations emphasized the plight of families waiting for news of over 4,000 missing Azerbaijanis, underscoring the importance of resolving these issues as the peace process progresses.
