Azerbaijan Targets 35.5% Renewable Energy Share by 2030, Announces Energy Minister.

BAKU: Azerbaijan is set to increase its renewable energy share to 35.5% by 2030, as announced by the country’s Energy Minister, Parviz Shahbazov. The minister revealed the ambitious target during his speech at the Ministerial Dialogue: Scaling up Investment for Tripling Renewables and Doubling Energy Efficiency at COP29.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shahbazov highlighted Azerbaijan’s commitment to becoming a “green growth country” and a supplier of green electricity and gases. He detailed plans for solar and wind power plants with a capacity of 2,250 MW to be commissioned by 2030, significantly boosting the country’s renewable energy capacity. The minister emphasized that the new target updates the previous 30% goal and represents a sevenfold increase in solar and wind energy within the national energy system.

Shahbazov also outlined strategic goals to create an additional 5 GW of energy capacity, aiming to supply this energy to Europe through the ‘Caspian-Black Sea-Europe’ and ‘Azerbaijan-Turkey-E
urope’ corridors. An additional focus is the establishment of the ‘Green Energy Corridor Azerbaijan-Central Asia,’ facilitating the flow of renewable energy from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The interconnected regional green energy corridors are expected to enhance Azerbaijan’s contribution to the transition to green energy across Asia and Europe by 2030, aligning with global commitments.
