Lachin: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held a limited format meeting with Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, in Lachin.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the meeting took place on May 27 and was significant in reaffirming Pakistan’s stance on the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, with Prime Minister Sharif emphasizing that ‘Karabakh is Azerbaijan.’
Prime Minister Sharif expressed his satisfaction with his visit to the region, congratulating President Aliyev on the forthcoming Independence Day and praising the rapid restoration and reconstruction efforts in Lachin, led by the Azerbaijani government. He highlighted the potential of the region to become a major tourist destination due to its natural beauty.
During the meeting, President Aliyev recalled the devastation of Lachin during its occupation and noted ongoing restoration efforts. Prime Minister Sharif reported on a recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan, indicating Pakistan’s commitment to peace and stability in South Asia.
The discussions also covered enhancing economic and trade ties between Azerbaijan and Pakistan, along with cooperation in various fields such as science, education, and technology. Both leaders looked forward to a trilateral summit with Trkiye, set to take place in Lachin, further strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and friendship among the nations.
