Azerbaijan and EU Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations


Baku:Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yalchin Rafiyev met with the EU Council Working Party on Eastern Europe and Central Asia (COEST) on October 1 to discuss the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan-EU relations.



According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the meeting covered various topics, including partnership priorities, negotiations for a new bilateral agreement, and areas of energy, transport connectivity, and climate cooperation. Discussions also touched on regional issues.



The Deputy Minister noted the recent intensification of high-level contacts between Azerbaijan and the EU, which has expanded cooperation in energy, trade, and connectivity. He emphasized the significance of the Middle Corridor and detailed Azerbaijan’s efforts to enhance its transport and logistics infrastructure, mentioning projects like the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the Port of Baku, and developments in the liberated territories.



Energy cooperation was a key topic, with discussions on Azerbaijan’s role in European energy security, expanding natural gas supplies, and renewable energy projects. The meeting also addressed the Azerbaijan-Armenia reconciliation process, highlighting progress since the Washington summit and steps toward confidence-building and peace.



The EU delegation received answers to numerous questions during the meeting, emphasizing the comprehensive exchange of views on these critical matters.
