Ankara expects to complete the construction of the Ygdyr-Nakhchivan gas pipeline in 2024, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar said. “After the implementation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline projects, we have now laid the foundation of the Ygdyr-Nakhchivan gas pipeline. God willing, in the shortest possible time, next year, we will complete this project, and the residents of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR)will be able to receive gas from Turkey through this pipeline in the winter of next year,” Bayraktar said in an interview with reporters on Friday in Nakhchivan. The new gas pipeline will be designed to supply Azerbaijani gas from Turkey to Nakhchivan. The length of the 16-inch pipeline from the Turkish Ygdyr to the Sadarak region of NAR is 97.5 km, including the Azerbaijani section – 17.5 km, the Turkish section – 80 km. The pipeline will be designed to transport 2 mcm of gas per day or 730 million cubic meters per year. With the completion of the construction of the Ygdyr-Nakhchivan gas pipeline, all Nakhchivan’s annual natural gas needs of 500 mcm will be met through Turkey. At the same time, the pipeline capacity may be more than doubled in the future. On the territory of Turkey, the gas pipeline will be a continuation of the main gas pipeline from Eastern Anatolia to Ygdyr. As part of the project in Turkey, it is also planned to build one gas measuring station in Diluja.
