144.400 tourists visited Azerbaijan in August

In January-August this year for tourist purposes Azerbaijan was visited by 912.700 foreigners, which is up by 32.7% from the comparable period of 2022, the State Statistics Committee reports. In August alone, over 200.000 foreigners visited Azerbaijan, of which 144.400 were tourists. In just eight months of this year, 1 million 343.7 (+ 33.8%) crossed the state borders of Azerbaijan. Russians are more active in attending Azerbaijan: about 345.000 citizens of the Russian Federation visited Azerbaijan in January-August. This is twice as much as in the comparable period of 2022. Note that the tourism potential of India is rising at higher rates. 64.000 tourists from this country visited Azerbaijan over the past period of this year, which is up by 2.7 times from the first eight months of the last year. Turkish citizens have become much less likely to visit Azerbaijan for tourist purposes this year. If 136.200 Turks visited Azerbaijan in January-August last year, this year this figure has dropped to 84.300 people. According to the SSC, in January-August this year, 902.500 out of 912.700 tourists arrived in Azerbaijan by air transport. Another 10,156 foreigners arrived in Azerbaijan via the Caspian Sea by ship. Recently, the Government of Azerbaijan extended the deadline for the closure of land borders, both for staying and departing persons, until January 2, 2024, under the pretext of fighting coronavirus.
