Yekaterinburg: Vugar Safarov, who alleges he was tortured by Russian law enforcement officers in Yekaterinburg, recounted harrowing experiences of being forced to eat mud and endure electric shocks along with his family members. The events unfolded during a raid at his home, as reported by APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the incident occurred on the morning of June 27, when masked officers forcibly entered Safarov’s home. Safarov described how the officers broke down the door and assaulted his family, including his mother, father, and brother. The family was subjected to beatings with batons and crowbars, and electric shocks were administered. Following the physical assault, they were handcuffed and transported to a police department in a “Gazelle” van, where they were forced to consume mud under duress.
Safarov detailed the continued violence at the police department, where he and his brother were confined to a room and subjected to further beatings and electric shocks. His father, Mazahir Safarov, who has heart disease, was given electric shocks that targeted his heart despite his pleas. Throughout the ordeal, the family was coerced to sign a contract to fight in Ukraine. The officers threatened to kill their family members if they refused to comply.
The torture resulted in severe physical injuries, requiring medical attention for several family members. Safarov’s father sustained broken ribs, and an ambulance was called for him. Another relative, Kamal Gadimali oglu Safarov, was hospitalized and underwent heart surgery due to the electric shocks. Two of Safarov’s uncles, Ziyaddin and Huseyn Safarov, were reportedly killed during the incident. Additionally, four others are hospitalized, including individuals from Bilasuvar and Masalli districts.
Footage obtained by APA corroborates the claims of torture, showing the brutal methods employed against the Safarov family and other Azerbaijanis. The events have sparked a call for justice and accountability for the acts of violence perpetrated by the law enforcement officers.
