Uzbekistan Underscores Investment Potential and Export Growth in Tashkent Region

Tashkent: Over the past eight years, the Tashkent region has experienced significant investment influxes, attracting $10 billion in regional and $8 billion in sectoral investments, while launching approximately 1,000 new enterprises across industrial, trade, and service sectors.

According to Trend News Agency, these developments were presented to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a meeting focused on evaluating reform effectiveness and outlining future plans for the region. In the past three years alone, the number of enterprises with an annual turnover exceeding 10 billion soums ($800,000) has nearly doubled, reaching 1,700. Additionally, companies with turnovers above 100 billion soums ($8 million) rose from 137 to 193. Consequently, the region’s annual exports have surpassed the $1 billion mark for the first time this year.

Large industrial parks, valued at $2.1 billion, are being developed with significant involvement from Chinese investors. Presidential decrees for 2025-2027 have been issued to accelerate the region’s transformation, supported by more than 40 trillion soums ($3.2 billion) in funding. These efforts have contributed to a steady decline in unemployment and poverty rates, with a target of reducing them to 4.5 percent by year-end.

To further advance reforms, a special headquarters was established in the Tashkent region at the president’s initiative. Programs and projects from this headquarters were presented at the meeting, where President Mirziyoyev provided directives to ministries and agencies to ensure effective implementation and address challenges promptly.

Key projects include constructing two new substations to support foreign-invested industrial enterprises in Nurafshan, Almalyk, and Chirchik. In Bekabad, auto parts production will be initiated to replace imports, while new food and textile enterprises will be launched in Akkurgan. Along the Karasu Canal, modern tourist and shopping complexes are planned for development in the Akhangaran, Angren, and Urtachirchik districts.

In total, investment projects worth $2.5 billion have been designed for the region, expected to generate employment for over 11,000 people and create an export potential of $434 million. The president stressed the importance of utilizing all available opportunities to transform mahallas into areas devoid of unemployment and poverty, turning them into sustainable growth and social stability drivers.
