Turkish and Ukrainian Athletes Triumph in Baku Marathon 2025


Baku: The winners of the “Baku Marathon 2025,” organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, have been announced. Atac Sezgin from Turkey claimed victory in the men’s race, while Natalya Semenovich from Ukraine took first place in the women’s category.



According to Azeri-Press news agency, the marathon was conducted under the slogan “Overcome the Wind” and saw Vitali Shafar from Ukraine finishing second in the men’s race. Murat Emekdar, another Turkish competitor, secured third place. In the women’s race, Anna Yusupova from Azerbaijan finished as runner-up, followed by Eriko Soma from Japan in third place.



The winners are set to receive cash prizes and medals in recognition of their achievements. The marathon commenced at 10:00 from the National Flag Square, witnessing the participation of thousands, including notable political and public figures, artists, and intellectuals. This event marks the 8th edition of the Baku Marathon, with around 28,000 individuals registering to compete. The inclusive event also welcomed people with physical disabilities and children with Down syndrome.



Participants included not only Azerbaijani citizens but also foreigners residing and working in Azerbaijan, as well as international participants from countries such as Germany, the United States, Australia, and many others. The marathon route spanned a total distance of 21 km, beginning and ending at the National Flag Square, and covered the Seaside Boulevard and the central streets and avenues of Baku.
