Kilis: Cooperation with friendly and brotherly countries Azerbaijan and Trkiye is a great happiness for Syria, Syrian Energy Minister Muhammad Al Bashir said during the opening of the Trkiye-Syria gas pipeline. The minister highlighted the swift implementation of the project as a testament to the strong ties between the nations involved.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the pipeline’s inauguration ceremony took place in Yavuzlu village, located in the Kilis province of Trkiye. This new infrastructure marks the beginning of Azerbaijani gas exports to Syria via Trkiye, an initiative aimed at enhancing Syria’s energy capabilities.
Preparations for this energy collaboration were finalized under a recent agreement between SOCAR and Syria. The first phase of the project plans for the annual transportation of 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Syria. The gas will be transported through Kilis, reaching power plants in Aleppo and Homs, significantly boosting electricity generation with an estimated production capacity of 1,200-1,300 megawatts.
This development underscores the strategic importance of regional cooperation in addressing energy needs and fostering economic growth.
