Small island states are starting to disappear under pressure: COP29 CEO

Small island states are already starting to disappear under pressure, Deputy Energy Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chief Executive Officer of COP29 Azerbaijan, Elnur Soltanov said at a round table held on the topic of Just Transition Partnerships and Catalysing Investments, APA reports.

He stated that there are countries applying for compensation: ‘The Prime Minister of Barbaros has called for compensation. Island nations are demanding compensation for the transition. When we talk about a just transition, we refer to various capabilities and common differential response measures. It needs to be investigated what should be done when obligations are not the same. Those left behind in the transition are vulnerable groups. According to the slogan ‘Just Transition for a Green World,’ these vulnerable groups must also be taken into account.’
