Shavkat Mirziyoyev holds negotiations with Charles Michel in Cholpon-Ata

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with President of the European Council Charles Michel in Cholpon-Ata as part of the Second EU – Central Asia Summit, according to the website of the President of Uzbekistan. The parties considered a wide range of issues of further deepening Uzbek-European multifaceted relations and developing practical cooperation in a regional format. Charles Michel congratulated the head of Uzbekistan on the constitutional referendum. He expressed support for reforms in the country, and wished successful implementation of the upcoming important political events. The parties noted the high dynamics of bilateral contacts and exchanges in accordance with the agreements of the high-level meeting held in Tashkent in October 2022. The trade turnover of Uzbekistan with the EU countries has grown by 70% since the beginning of this year. The cost of investment projects with the participation of leading European companies in the high-tech sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan exceeded 20 billion euros. The parties also exchanged views on the issues of increasing the volume and diversification of bilateral trade, extending the GSP+ preferential trade regime, developing efficient transport routes, primarily the Trans-Caspian transit corridor, implementing joint programs and projects in the areas of green energy, innovation and high technology, digitalization, ecology, education and tourism. The sides considered topical issues of the regional agenda as well. The importance of continuing consultations and providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan was emphasized.
