Baku:Professor Kamran Musayev, Honorary Chairman of the Society of Cardiovascular Surgery, emphasized the goal of establishing a sustainable heart transplantation program in Azerbaijan during a conference held as part of “Heart Transplantation Week,” APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Professor Musayev pointed out that the advancement of healthcare in Azerbaijan is a result of the state healthcare policy initiated by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and continued by President Ilham Aliyev. Furthermore, the support from First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva has positioned Azerbaijan as a regional leader in complex medical fields like transplantation.
In the past year, four heart transplants have been successfully performed. Azerbaijan’s progress in organ transplantation began in 1999, and after decades of preparation, last year marked the first real conditions test of organ transplantation from deceased donors, starting with a liver transplant in February and a heart transplant in October.
Professor Musayev expressed confidence in the future of the heart transplantation program, highlighting the successful technical outcomes of operations on four patients. He hopes that the initiative will become a sustainable tradition, involving both current and future generations of medical professionals in Azerbaijan.
