Baku: Aziz Alakbarli, Chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community and MP of the Milli Majlis, met with Founder and President of the Mantraya Institute for Strategic Studies (MISS), Professor Shanthie Mariet D’Souza on December 5. During the meeting, Aziz Alakbarli provided detailed information on the purpose of the conference, the current geopolitical situation in the region, the historical process of Western Azerbaijanis displacement, and current challenges. He noted the importance of interaction with international partners in broader promotion of the right of return at the international level.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Aziz Alakbarli highlighted Azerbaijan’s consistent international initiatives on Western Azerbaijan, noting that the community continues its activities to protect cultural heritage, ensure justice based on history, and promote humanitarian approaches that contribute to peace. Professor Shanthie Mariet D’Souza highlighted the importance for Azerbaijan to use international legal instruments like UNESCO heritage protection, UN human rights documents, and refugee law more effectively, particularly concerning cultural heritage and human rights issues, to strengthen its position and ensure justice under global norms.
